I was asked by shop owner Kieran to create a Christmas display for their Fine Food/Cheese shop in the village of Chinley on the edge of the Peak District. The shop offers a wide range of local produce, including (of course) cheese. The overall decoration of the shop includes lots of wood texture, nice wooden floor, simple wooden shelves and an old style shop front window with stain glass at the top. I suggested to create a traditional Christmas vision of somebody's lounge in the midst of wrapping up Christmas presents for friends and family. I wanted a cosy atmosphere that recalls a time when people took the time to make their own decorations (orange pomander balls, cranberry hearts, cinnamon bundles, dried orange slices, pinecones etc..) sat next to a warm fire with a glass of a favourite tipple not far away…
I created the fireplace in cardboard as it went along with Kieran's ethos of using material that can be recycled and I used a flickering LED lights garland for the fire.
